Protesters prepare to leave makeshift protest camping site

epa10107030 Protesters prepare to leave the months-long makeshift protest site near the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 05 August 2022.The Colombo Fort Police has informed the occupying protesters to remove all illegal structures and unauthorized cultivated crops from the Galle Face Green and surrounding areas near the president's secretariat and to vacate the months-long protest sites before 5 pm on August 5. Meanwhile, on August 5th, the Sri Lankan Attorney General pledged to the Appeal Court that the illegal structures set up at the protest site in Galle Face Green would not be removed until August 10th, in the absence of the necessary legal provisions. Protesters have occupied the current protest site for over 118 days. Protests have been affecting the country for over four months as Sri Lanka faces its worst-ever economic crisis in decades due to the lack of foreign reserves, resulting in severe shortages in food, fuel, medicine, and imported goods.
