Korea Finance Society flourishing with more ethnic Koreans active on Wall Street

The Korea Finance Society (KFS), a Korean-American financier community, has expanded to 2,500 from modest founding with 300 in 2010 with the backing of Korea’s top business news publisher Maeil Business Newspaper, to play an active role as a bridge of private and public sectors of Korea and the United States.

KFS has since produced big names for the Wall Street under co-management of Mike Joo and Sandor Hau, who had been two Korean descent out of 100 recruits that joined Goldman Sachs in 1995.

Mike Joo is a managing director/ COO for Global Corporate & Investment Banking at Bank of America. Sandor Hau is a managing director at Charlesbank Capital Partners.

The community has been helping networking of financier-aspirants build their career at the Wall Street.

The financial network has operated an annual fellowship program to provide young students with job opportunities. It selects high-achieving college sophomores as KFS fellows through a competitive screening process and helps their chances of obtaining summer positions at leading financial services firms.

Maeil Business Newspaper has been backing the KFS to nurture Korean professionals on the global financial stage. It also has hosted the Global Financial Leaders Forum in New York since 2010, jointly with the KFS and the Korea Society, for networking between domestic and Wall Street financial professionals. This year's forum is scheduled for October in New York. In addition, the newspaper will hold a mentoring program for young jobseekers starting this year along with the KFS.
