Some 10,000 humpback whales have settled in the warm equatorial waters, from northern Peru to Costa Rica and beyond, on a journey they make each year to find love and bear their young. On a journey that lasts the entire winter cycle of the southern hemisphere, from July to October, these cetaceans prefer equatorial waters for their lovemaking and for giving birth, activities that they arrive at after a month of permanent swimming.
