South Korea¡¯s LS Cable & System, has developed liquid-cooled hyper-charging cables and is ready to start mass production, a move that would help raise price competitiveness of Korean fast EV chargers.

Under the electric vehicle (EV) charging standards in Korea, liquid cooling is required for hyper-chargers over 400kW, whose charging speed is two times faster than air-cooled chargers of 50~250 kW.

As charging speeds become faster, heat increases, and the cables and cable connectors become bulkier and heavier. Liquid cooling LS developed lowers the heat generated in hyper charging. Liquid-cooled cables are lighter than air-cooled ones, making them easier to manage.

LS has also improved the existing cooling method to solve the liquid leakage problem.

It filed a patent for its technology and plans to strengthen competitiveness by upgrading cable performance and quality. It has already completed patent registrations in the U.S. and Japan and is in the process in Korea.

Liquid type relies entirely on European imports.

LS Cable & System has been enhancing EV component business, including windings for EV motors, high-voltage harnesses, aluminum wires, and charging guns. Its shares rose 3.38 percent to 7,030 won in the early trading on Wednesday.
