UNESCO inscribed culture of Ukrainian borscht soup on List of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Traditionally, Borscht is considered one of the most popular Ukrainian dishes with a wide variety of options for the recipe. In October 2020, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy announced plans to send an application for the inclusion of Ukrainian borscht in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage despite a dispute between Russia and Ukraine over the origin of borscht because Russia has repeatedly claimed borscht as a national dish. On 01 July 2022, the UNESCO inscribed the culture of Ukrainian borscht cooking on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage to be 'in need of urgent safeguarding'. EPA/SERGEY DOLZHENKO
