Honey production in Yemen amid ongoing conflict

Yemeni beekeepers have fled their conflict-ridden villages, transporting their beehives to safer rural areas for producing some of the finest honey in the world. Yemeni honey has a reputation as one of the finest in the world due to its purity, therapeutic benefits and the aphrodisiacal properties ascribed to such honey, especially the Do'ani and Sidr honey from the eastern Yemeni province of Hadramout. Yemen produces more than 1,500 tons of honey a year, providing an income for an estimated 100,000 mall-scale beekeepers across the war-ridden Arab country, according to UN recent figures.
