The new all-electric model is the group’s first clear-cut sedan on the E-GMP – self-developed EV-dedicated platform – to reach out to more diverse car preferences.
Cumulative sales of three all-electric predecessors – Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60 – reached a combined 175,460 units globally as of the end of May since their releases last year.
The highly-anticipated follow-up to the popular Ioniq 5 was designed under the theme of “Ethical Uniqueness, which reflects Hyundai’s customer-centric commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility,” the company said in a statement.
The Korean auto giant only unveiled the Ioniq 6’s design on Wednesday and will wait until its world premiere next month to present other details such as its specifications, trims and prices.
At the front, the Ionia 6 adopted the Parametric Pixel design that features more than 700 pixel designs in various places like headlamps, with the low hood for a slippery silhouette. Newly designed H emblem is made of aluminum for luxury texture and will be applied to upcoming new models.
Dual color ambient lighting allows users to choose a spectrum of 64 colors and six dual color themes. All buttons removed from the front doors are on the console in the middle to give more spacious look.
For sustainability, various eco-friendly materials are applied to the exterior, including recycled pigment paint from end-of-life tires to the cladding and bamboo charcoal pigment paint to the body.
The interior also is trimmed in sustainable materials and colors – eco-process leather recycled PET fabric for seats, bio TPO skin for dashboard, bio PET fabric for headliner, bio paint from vegetable oils for doors and recycled fishing net for carpet.
With the photos, Hyundai Motor released digital 3D design film at three global landmark billboard sites on the same day, K-POP Square in downtown Seoul, Piccadilly Circus in London and the Big Kahuna in New York Times Square.
The Ioniq 6 world premiere will take place in July when the company reveals the full specifications at the Busan International Motor Show 2022 running on July 15-24 in Busan.
Separately, Genesis G80 came first in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study in the United States among 15 premium brands, beating Lexus and Cadillac.
Hyundai Motor shares were trading 5.13 percent higher at 184,500 won ($142.16) in Seoul trading at 11:32 a.m. Thursday.
