The former President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, was acquitted by the court in the case of mass riots in October 2020. The court also released the head of the ex-president's apparatus, Farid Niyazov, from custody. On 05-06 October 2020, rallies were held in Bishkek in protest against the alleged falsification of the results of the parliamentary elections, then the riots began. On 06 October 2020, under pressure from the public, the Kyrgyz Central Election Commission (CEC) was forced to annul the election results. Atambayev was the President of Kyrgyzstan from 2011 to 2017.
