Girl group Blackpink delivered a video message about the aftermath of climate change as the advocates for the United Nations 26th Climate Change Conference (COP26).

“We all saw documentaries about the issues [of climate change], spoke to others, and actually witnessed the changes ourselves, leading to a greater understanding of the severity of the situation,” Jennie said in the YouTube video uploaded on Blackpink’s official YouTube channel Thursday.

“After learning about how the Earth and our future is being threatened by climate change, we were worried and scared about what will happen next,” Jisoo said. “We were still at a learning stage, but then we were given an opportunity to listen, watch and learn firsthand [by becoming advocates] for which we are very grateful.”

Blackpink was selected to be advocates of COP26 in February 2021 and has been speaking up about issues related to climate change since then.

The video posted on Thursday was filmed at the British Embassy in Seoul with British Ambassador Colin Crooks on May 26 as part of a celebratory event for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.

“We have been using eco-friendly substances for our artists’ products such as albums and related merchandise,” YG Entertainment said. “For the plastic vinyl wrapping, which isn’t easy to substitute, we are using eco-friendly substances extracted from cornstarch.”
