Pope Francis announced Sunday that he would appoint 21 new cardinals in August, including South Korean archbishop Lazzaro You Heung-sik.

The Pope celebrated the Sunday prayer at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican and announced his mark on the group of people who might someday elect the next pontiff.

You, 70, will be the fourth South Korean to receive the prestigious red hat in August. The Catholic Church in Korea produced the deceased Cardinals Stephen Kim Sou-hwan and Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, and Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung.

Born in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, You earned a degree in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Lateran University. He was ordained as a priest in 1979. Beginning in 1994, he worked as a professor at the Catholic University of Daejeon. In 2003, Pope John Paul II named him Bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Daejeon. He was selected as the Minister of the Holy See, who oversees the affairs and life of priests and deacons around the world. His inauguration ceremony is scheduled to be held on August 27.
