Nepalese Sherpa Climber Dendi Sherpa

Sherpa Dendi is a professional mountain guide and had climbed Mt. Everest five times. 'I earn nearly Nrs. 6 Lakh (five thousand US dollar) a Year from the expedition job' said Dendi, but due to Covid-19 pandemic all the expeditions were cancelled. Dendi was recently diagnosed with blood cancer according to Dr. Bishal Poudel, Hemato-oncologist of Civil Hospital in Kathmandu and couldn’t complete his last foreign expedition to Mt. Everest this year. Dendi’s wife Dachi Sherpa, with friends and relatives, are collecting funds for his treatment as he doesn't have medical insurance as he didn’t complete the expedition. I don’t know how long I will survive- said Dendi. Nepal is marking the annual international Mt. Everest day today. EPA/NARENDRA SHRESTHA
