The United Nations Association of Republic of Korea will host the 27th National Model UN Conference from July 12 to 15 at Handong Global University in Pohang, North Gyeongsang. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is sponsoring the conference.
Around 250 college students from 36 universities across the country will participate in the event.
Participants will play the roles of representatives of UN member states during the session to discuss important issues related to the international community, from the perspective of college students.
Three issues were selected for the 27th conference: strengthening the UN's role in resolving international conflicts, financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the post-Covid-19 era, and the international response to and prevention of terrorism and violent extremism.
Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will give a special lecture for the opening of the Mock UN Assembly session.
The Grand Prize winners for each of the three issues will be given a chance to attend a real UN conference.
The Mock UN Assembly began in 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations.
