Rookie girl group Lightsum held a showcase for its first EP “Into The Light” at Blue Square in Yongsan District, central Seoul, on Tuesday.
Sporting a funky high-teen style, the eight members of Lightsum said that they wanted to bring their positive energy to the public once more, but with a bolder and more authentic charm.
The lead track “Alive” is a song about someone who lived a monochromatic life but then feels alive after meeting a person who she likes, according to the member Yujeong.
The members said that they worked especially hard on the choreography for "Alive."
“The moves was harder than our previous two singles, and it also included a dance break,” said Juhyeon. “We used to say to each other ‘this is the hardest dance yet!’”
Ahead of the group's one-year anniversary, the members said that they have gained more experience and feel that now, they are able to show more of their individual charms while performing together.
“Everything was so new before, but now I think our members have relaxed more and they can display their own charms while performing in unison with the group,” said Juyeon.
After debuting last June in the thick of the coronavirus, the members were excited to meet fans in person during their upcoming promotional activities for the new EP.
“I want to hear their cheers and enjoy the stage with our fans,” said Nayoung.
In addition to "Alive," the EP consists of “i,” “Good News,” “Q” and “Bye Bye Love.”
Lightsum debuted in June 2021 with the single “Vanilla.” In October last year, the group released its second single “Light A Wish.” It has eight members: Sangah, Chowon, Nayoung, Hina, Juhyeon, Yujeong, Huiyeon and Jian.
Members Chowon, Nayoung and Yoojung were featured in Mnet's K-pop audition program "Produce 48" (2018).
The group’s name Lightsum suggests a coming together of smaller lights to light up the entire world. The group promises a message of hope and positive energy.
Lightsum is Cube Entertainment’s first new girl group in three years. Cube Entertainment is home to other K-pop groups like BTOB, (G)I-DLE, Pentagon and singer Jo Kwon.
