Hit web novel “The New Employee” by author Moscareto will be made into a K-drama, according to content platform Ridi on Monday.
“The New Employee” is in the BL genre, which is the acronym for “boys’ love,” Korean fan slang for homosexual romance between men. The story portrays a romance between a new employee at an advertising firm and his boss. The story was adapted into a webtoon of the same title in 2020.
The BL genre has been rising in popularity recently, as seen in the success of the Watcha original series “Semantic Error” which was released through the video streaming service between February and March. “Semantic Error” was also based on a popular BL web novel from Ridi and was the first Korean original series by an over-the-top platform to center around gay romance.
“The New Employee” will be released through Watcha. It is undetermined when it will premiere or if it will be an exclusive on Watcha.
