South Koreans fully vaccinated with three does against Covid-19 and tested negative have been exempted from three-day isolation to enter Japan.

The exemption has become effective starting Tuesday midnight under a revised border quarantine rule by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Monday that still kept the three-day entry isolation mandate for entrants from countries like Egypt, Pakistan, Bulgaria, South Africa, Laos, and Russia.

South Koreans are currently issued visas for business or studies. Pleasure trips had been subject to the quarantine rule.

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio said recently that the government will monitor infection conditions during the Golden Week and consider easing in stage in line with measures of G7 governments after consulting with public health experts in June.

Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on May 11 met with members of Japan-Korea Parliamentary Association at the presidential office in Yongsan, Seoul, to ask for freer entry to revive exchanges and activities in mutual countries.

The Japanese delegates also asked for revival of the Gimpo-Haneda air route suspended since March 2020.

Flights to and from Incheon International Airport and Narita International Airport have stayed open under Covid-19 but shorter route between Gimpo and Haneda had been halted.
