SK telecom has unveiled a trial version of self-growing and learning artificial intelligence assistance service called ¡®A.¡¯

The company Monday announced the Android open beta of the service available on the ONE store and Google Play. A. is a new service that automatically recommends and plays music and videos that users may like, while handling some troublesome tasks for smartphone users, such as scheduling, making calls, and sending text messages.

The new AI features a user-customized AI model based on communications with a specific user to provide more useful services.

Users can choose one of the five basic characters according to their personal interests to decide the design, language tone, voice, and name of the AI assistant. Users can exchange voices or texts with their personalized AI to communicate like a friend and obtain necessary information, the company said.

A. is in sync with SKT¡¯s various services necessary for daily life such as OTT wavve and music app FLO, as well as T-map, T-world, T-membership, calendar, phone call and text message.

The company said it applied advanced natural language processing and emotion analysis technology to empower A. to talk about various topics in Korean. SKT has developed its own Korean-language version of the hyperscale model (GPT-3), which is known to have the best performance among existing conversational language models.

The open beta service is currently available for Android-based smartphone users, with all in-app services free of charge regardless of telecom carrier.

A. for Apple iOS will be released as soon as possible, the company added.
