K-pop star AleXa became the final winner of NBC's “American Song Contest” on Tuesday.
"I was not expecting to win at all, but I am so thankful," said the singer through her agency ZB Label. "I was able to perform on stage until now due to the love and support of so many people. Thank you so much for giving this unbelievable gift."
During the final episode, AleXa performed her dance-pop song titled "Wonderland" live. The song is about the perfect ideals of love that only exist inside people's imagination.
Becoming the only contestant to score in the 700s, AleXa bested nine other artists including Grammy winner Michael Bolton.
She scored especially high in the fan vote category.
AleXa represented Oklahoma, the state where she was born. A total of 56 contestants competed in the competition and AleXa was the only K-pop artist.
AleXa, whose real name is Alexandra Christine Schneiderman, is an American singer based in Korea. She debuted in 2019 after gaining popularity by appearing on Soompi's audition program "Rising Legends" in 2016 and on Mnet's "Produce 48" in 2018. Her first digital single was “Bomb” (2019).
“American Song Contest” is NBC’s upcoming music reality competition show hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson. Artists from each of the 50 U.S. states will compete together to win votes from viewers and earn the title of Best Original Song.
The show premiered on March 21.
