Cumulative sales of Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp.칢 all-electric vehicles proprietary EV-dedicated platform E-GMP topped 50,000 units at home and 100,000 units overseas amid elevation of the Korean brand names in the age of e-mobility.

Hyundai Motor Group said Monday that it sold a total of 54,919 units of EVs on E-GMP last year in Korea – 33,213 units of Hyundai Ioniq 5 (launched in April), 18,509 units of Kia EV6 (launched in August) and 3,197 units of Genesis GV60 (launched in October).

Cumulative exports also surged to 102,000 units up to April this year – Ioniq 5 62,000 units, EV6 39,000 units and GV60 1,000 units.

The three models also are built on Hyundai Motor Group칢 proprietary platform E-GMP for EVs. The platform allows Hyundai Motor Group칢 EV models to have a spacious interior with the batteries placed under the car칢 floor, with the vehicle-to-load function for external device-charging.

Hyundai Motor Group sold a total of 30,550 units of EVs – Hyundai Motor and Genesis 19,730 units and Kia 13,820 units on home turf. Of the total, 20,035 units or 59.7 percent were the all-electric models on E-GMP.

Globally, the group칢 EV sales totaled 76,801 units up to March this year, of which 42,657 units or 56 percent were all-electric models on E-GMP.

Sales outlook for the latter half of the year is even brighter.

Ioniq 5 started being manufactured in the Indonesian plant in March, with more than 1,500 orders made in the first six days. Last year, a total of 693 EVs were sold in Indonesia. Ioniq 6 will also be available outside Korea in the fourth quarter after the launch at home in the second half.

Sales of GV6 will be kicked off in the U.S. from the second half as well.

Industry experts expect Hyundai Motor Group will safely achieve its annual sales target of 200,000 units of all-electric EVs on E-GMP if the new release plans for major markets stay intact.
