Samsung Galaxy S22 to be unpacked on Feb 9

Samsung Electronics has set the unveiling date for Galaxy S22, this year’s version in the premium smartphone league with possible upgrades in camera capabilities and Note features, at 10 a.m. on Feb 9 (U.S. Eastern Time)/ midnight on Feb 10 (Korean time)

“We (will) set an epic new standard for smartphones with the most noteworthy S series ever created,” said the South Korean tech giant upon announcing the Galaxy Unpacked date on Wednesday. The event will be virtually held via the company’s YouTube channel due to Covid-19 situation.

The Galaxy S22 series will likely come with upgraded cameras and sensors for improved photo shooting and video recording experience at night, suggested the official trailer posted on the corporate website.

According to media leaks, the latest flagship smartphone series would come in three types – Galaxy S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra.

Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are expected to show upgrades from predecessor Galaxy S21 series, with a refined design and improved chips, on top of better camera capabilities, the leaks suggested. Galaxy S22 Ultra will likely have more distinctive changes with a Note-like look, dropping the rounded rectangular design of Galaxy S21 Ultra. It is also expected to have a built-in silo for S-Pen stylus, inheriting the key figure of the Note line, which last came in the form of Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Screen size is predicted at 6.1 inch for the basic Galaxy S22, smaller than predecessor Galaxy S21 with 6.2-inch display. Galaxy S22 Plus is expected to come with 6.6-inch screen and S22 Ultra with 6.8 inch.

Market experts speculate the latest premium handsets to have higher price tag than Galaxy S21 series, which was the first 5G smartphone to have a starting price of below 1 million won ($835), due to prolonged chip shortages.
