The next film from Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho will be in the sci-fi genre which he’ll create in conjunction with Warner Bros, according to American media outlets.

Outlets such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter reported that Bong will partner up with Warner Bros and is set to script and direct the film adapted from upcoming novel “Mickey7” by Edward Ashton. The story centers around a disposable clone dubbed Mickey 7 sent on a mission to colonize the ice world Nifheim, who learns about the existence of his replacement clone, Mickey 8.

According to Variety, Ashton sent the manuscript to Bong before it is published and Bong showed interest. The book is scheduled to be published next month.

Neither the title of the film nor the plot details have been confirmed, and it remains unknown how much Bong intends to stick to the original book.

Robert Pattinson, who will star as the DC Comics superhero Batman in the upcoming film “The Batman” and is most well-known to Korean audiences for “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” (2005) and The Twilight Saga film series (2008-2012), has been cast for the movie.

Bong made history at the Oscars in 2020 when his film "Parasite" became the first non-English language movie to win best picture. The acclaimed film also won the awards for best original screenplay, director and international feature.
