Last week, BTS member V’s “Virkin” took the fashion world by storm. This week, it’s Jimin’s purple hoodie.
The hoodie that Jimin has frequently been spotted wearing in numerous casual videos the members have uploaded, sold out within seconds of its release on Tuesday. It was priced at 99,000 won ($83,000). He also released a set of hoop earrings, priced at 75,000 won, which also sold out almost instantly.
HYBE has been rolling out BTS members’ merchandise personally designed by the members themselves under its Artist-made Collection available trhough the Weverse Shop, which have become must-have items among ARMY, the name of BTS’s fans.
The Weverse Shop server crashed almost instantly at 11 a.m. Tuesday, when Jimin’s merch was released as too many people across the globe tried to simultaneously access the app.
This did not happen for V’s “Virkin” last Tuesday, which also sold out within seconds.
Following the outcry of those who failed to get their hands on the items, HYBE said it is “positively considering” releasing some more in the near future.
“The decision will be announced soon at Weverse Shop,” the agency said.
Though the hoodie and the earring are sold out, a YouTube video of BTS members introducing Jimin’s collection, which was released a day before the merch dropped, has garnered more than 160,000 views as of Wednesday morning.
In the video, the members introduce the hoodie and the earrings as if they are home shopping channel hosts. Jimin also appears in the video, introducing his designs and explaining why he added the sentences “You never walk alone” and "Seven with you” on the hoodie and the number “13” on both ends of the drawstring. The number represents Jimin’s birthdate, which is Oct. 13, and the date of BTS’s debut, which was June, 13, 2013.
