Who can outshine BTS?
For the second consecutive year, BTS grabbed the title of Billboard’s best-selling song of the year.
On Jan.6, Billboard revealed that BTS’s megahit “Butter” (2021) was United States’ No.1 best-selling digital song of 2021, selling 1.89 million digital copies. Billboard said the data was collected through MRC Data.
The boy band’s track “Dynamite” took the top spot the previous year, selling 1.26 million digital copies.
The second best-selling digital song of 2021 was Walker Hayes’ “Fancy Like," which sold a total of 499,000 digital copies.
"Butter" was the only song that had more than 1 million downloads in the country last year.
According to Billboard, BTS swept four out of the top 10 spots on the list for 2021. The third best-selling digital song of 2021 was “Permission to Dance,” with 404,000 copies, while “Dynamite” ranked at No.6 with 308,000 copies. The boy band’s collaboration song with Coldplay “My Universe” ranked at No.7 with 287,000 copies.
BTS topped the top-selling physical album list with “Map of the Soul: 7” in 2020, but failed to make it in 2021.
“Butter,” a summary disco-pop song was released last May as the group’s second English-language song. It stayed 10 non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. According to Billboards, only 40 songs, including “Butter” have achieved the feat in its history.
