LG Electronics will jump into future mobility and robots in an effort to improve the lives of its customers, CEO Cho Joo-wan said during the "LG World Premiere" presentation, which he hosted on Wednesday during the CES 2022 tech festival.
The LG Omnipod is at the top of the list.
A self-driving vehicle currently in development, it can be used for a variety of activities, such as watching movies or camping. The autonomous driving vehicle will be connected with LG home appliances that use ThinQ, which allows for the integration of and communications with all its products.
Also connected through ThinQ will be the company's three robots: the LG CLOi guide robot, the LG CLOi serving robot and the LG Door-to-Door delivery robot. Each robot will connect via 5G and tend to the needs of the customer, such as guiding them, serving food or delivering packages.
"In mobility from telematics based on ultra-fast mobile communications to digitally integrated cockpits and multi-modal human-machine interfaces, we're transforming both hardware and software to reinvent your in-vehicle experience," Cho said.
"It's all about transcending boundaries — so you can enjoy the comfort and convenience of your home, wherever you are, even when you're on the move."
The ThinQ software will be at the core of all connectivity, both within the house and the vehicle. The ThinQ is the brand name of software integrated into LG appliances that allows them to take commands from consumers via smartphones or voice.
The presentation also showed how consumers can use LG Electronics home devices to the fullest.
A user can continue watching what they started in the living room in the kitchen through a voice command. If users choose a cooking recipe from the LG ThinQ app, the app can automatically preheat the oven and set the time needed for that recipe without the user having to do it themselves.
The company emphasized its use of eco-friendlier materials for both its products and their packages. The example given was the Eclair LG Sound Bar, which has been made with recycled plastic and packaged with recycled paper and cardboard.
Last year, LG Electronics announced it will collect 8 million tons of used electronic appliances and recycle 600,000 tons of plastic into its products by 2030.
Efforts for sustainability and connectivity are being carried out under the slogan "Innovation for a Better Life."
"Our job is to support you, and empower you with our innovations, in all your journeys, to attain the better life you deserve," Cho said.
