Artillery shooting game Fortress V2, one of favorite pastimes for middle-age Koreans in their schooldays, will be released in Southeast Asia next year as a blockchain-based play-to-earn (P2E) “Fortress Arena”.

Its developer Retiad has unveiled a teaser website and opened a non-fungible token (NFT) airdrop event in cooperation with Play Factory prior to the release of new P2E title using the intellectual property of Fortress V2.

Released in 1999, Fortress V2 is a strategic online multiplayer artillery shooting game where a user can team up with up to four friends on various maps and compete on the battle grounds with tanks of various abilities. Based on its simple gaming structure, turn type, chat option and various strategic factors, the series commanded a large cult starting in Korea in early 2000s.

The new version will be enhanced with metaverse, blockchain and NFT features.

The upgrade has already enthralled gamers around the world. The number of followers on Fortress Arena’s official Twitter and YouTube pages has topped 4,000 and 3,000, respectively.

The new game is expected to be out as an Ethereum blockchain-based game. The developer now is establishing the system to allow users to combine NFTs to create in-game characters of new tanks.

Beta test will start in March next year.

Retiad and Play Factory can release P2E and NFT-applied game only in overseas as they are banned in Korea. They may make the game available without the P2E feature in Korea.
