Flooding in Chennai

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfalls expected in several districts of Tamil Nadu and including Chennai for the coming days as a cyclonic circulation lies over the Comorin area and adjoining Sri Lanka coasts. The heavy downpour continued to lash Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, leaving many areas flooded. At least five people had died due to the recent heavy rains and thousands were shifted to relief centers in the state of Tamil Nadu. Authorities continued rescue and relief operations in flood-affected regions across the state.
