Seoul may go back to tightened mitigation as hospitals run out of beds for critically ill

South Korea may return to toughened mitigation rules as the number of critically ill Covid-19 patients hit a record high of 549 in South Korea on Tuesday, with occupancy of hospital beds in Seoul and its surrounding areas at 83.3%, way above 75% threshold Korea cited to return to distancing upon lifting early this month. “We are discussing and deliberating various measures including emergency actions if the grave situation continues,” said Song Young-rae, senior official at the disease response headquarters. The daily tally of new infections came at 2,699.
