BGF Retail, operator of Korea’s major convenience store CU, is proliferating fast in Malaysia, opening its 20th store in Kuala Lumpur in just seven months since it had opened its first store in April with local partner Mynews Holdings. It added 15 new outlets in October alone after overall virus conditions stabled, of which six were key stores that were managed by Mynew Holdings. The Korean convenience store is popular among locals with ready-made snacks and food packages like tteokbboki and gimbap and private brand products accounting for 75% of total sales. BGF Retail aims to operate 40 stores by the end of 2021.
