The number of newborn babies in South Korea fell to an all-time low for the month of August, extending the on-month losing streak for 69 consecutive months since December 2015. According to the data released by Statistics Korea on Wednesday, the monthly newborn count slipped to 22,291 in August, down 0.5 percent from the same month last year. It has led to a natural population decline for 22 straight months, as there were 3,530 more deaths than newborns in August.
