Genesis X Concept EV of Hyundai Motor Group has won a top Red Dot award in Germany, raising expectations that the luxury marque may score another major win in the sports EV category.

Genesis announced Thursday that its X Concept EV won the Best of the Best award in the mobility and transportation segment of the design concept category at the 2021 Red Dot Design Awards hosted by Germany’s Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen.

This year, a total of 4,110 items from 49 countries vied for the award in the design concept category and 61 grabbed a trophy.

Genesis X Concept is an EV-based Grand Turismo (GT) concept car that maximizes the use of its two lines design element on its electric charging port and many other aspects of the interior and the exterior.

The front is low and wide thanks to the combination of a shield-shaped crest grille and two-lined headlamps. The double-layered bumpers give a bold and strong look.

To bolster the high-performance image, two-layered turbine-type alloy wheels with five spokes have been incorporated with the brake calipers in lime color.

The interior envelops the driver like an airplane cockpit with focus on minimal design and driver’s convenience. The driver’s seat and the next have different colors.

The free-form display to manage various functions such as clusters, navigation and heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) systems and the Crystal Sphere electronic shift lever that integrates driving mode settings adds a high-tech atmosphere to the interior.

Up-cycled weaving materials made from leftover pieces of leather also are used for the safety belts, parts of the steering wheel and the airbag cover, highlighting its eco-friendliness.

“The aristocratic elegance of the Genesis X Concept exudes harmony, combining sculpture-like beauty with athletic proportions. Our intention was to also demonstrate our vision with our automotive passion,” said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke.

“The iconic Two Lines brand signature and the Athletic Elegance, the essence of Genesis design philosophy, combine to convey our passion experienced only in a Genesis,” explained Lee Sang-yup, global head of design at Genesis.

The concept car will be on a display on a roadshow across Seoul, Busan and Jeju Island until Nov. 21.
