South Korean auto conglomerate Hyundai Motor Group’s logistics unit and the world’s leading hydrogen supplier Air Products & Chemicals have agreed to expand partnership to establish liquid hydrogen supply network at home and abroad.

Hyundai Glovis Co. said Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with U.S. hydrogen giant Air Products & Chemicals to build supply channels for liquid, clean hydrogen across Korea.

Air Products & Chemicals based in Pennsylvania, the U.S. is the world’s leading industrial gas company that supplies hydrogen and other gases with proprietary production technologies, factory operation knowhow and technical edge in storage and transport. It now is joining over 250 hydrogen charging station projects in 20 countries.

Under the partnership, the two companies will cooperate to establish supply channels for liquid hydrogen, blue and green hydrogen at home and seek for new opportunities in marine shipping for blue and green hydrogen and other new businesses overseas.

Hyundai Glovis will secure stable supply of liquid hydrogen, and Air Products will be in charge of review of related investment and operation. They are aiming to find new overseas business opportunities as well by combining the global network of Hyundai Glovis with Air Products’ technical prowess.

The Korean logistics company has been aggressive in grooming hydrogen business as its next growth engine. Recently it launched new eco-friendly energy solution brand ECOH to expand its hydrogen logistics and electronic vehicle battery recycling businesses. Under ECOH, it aims to provide an optimal service in the entire hydrogen value chain from production to storage, transportation and supply.

“I look forward to seeing the results of cooperation between Hyundai Glovis with strength in global overland and marine transport of gases and Air Products & Chemicals with expertise in gas production technology and sales knowhow,” said Kim Jung-hoon, CEO of Hyundai Glovis.
