LG Elec launches plant cultivation home appliance 'LG tiiun'

LG Electronics Inc. has released a plant cultivator called ‘LG tiiun’ to allow consumers to easily grow flowers and vegies at home.

The two-shelve device can hold up to three seed kits each. The kit including seeds and artificial soil has 10 holes. Vegetables take about four weeks and herbs six weeks to harvest, and flowers take eight weeks to blossom regardless of the weather conditions and seasons.

By simply installing the seed kits in the shelves and supplying water and nutrients, customers can easily cultivate plants at home.

The company will first provide 20 seed kits – three flower seeds including viola and marigold, 12 vegetables including kale and bok choy and five herbs and more types of seeds will be added in the future.

The home appliance has an automatic temperature controlling system to set temperatures differently at day and night like a natural environment. It also automatically waters the plants eight times a day. It is priced at 1.49 million won ($1,260).

LG Electronics is receiving pre-orders from Thursday through October 31 at LG Best Shop stores and on its website. It will also operate a pop-up store at its showroom Platz in Sengsu-dong, Seoul, from Friday to early November to allow customers to try out the appliance.

The device has been developed by LG Electronics’ Company in Company (CIC) Sprout Company. LG Electronics has introduced CIC as business incubation to seek future growth engines.
