Airports bustle ahead of Hangul Day holiday despite high Covid cases

Gimpo airport in Seoul is bustling with travelers flying out of town for a long weekend on Friday morning although Korea continues to report over 2,000 Covid-19 infection cases a day. Korea’s disease control authorities confirmed 327,976 cases of infection, as of 0:00 a.m. Friday, with a concern for a sharp rise following the weekend as more people spend time outdoors to enjoy the fall weather. Korea will go on break from Oct 9 to 11 to celebrate the Hangul Day, a national holiday marking the invention and proclamation of Hangul, the alphabet of the Korean language created by King Sejong the Great in 1443.
