Martin told in an interview with EFE how after nearly 30 years as a member of the Light of the World church and becoming an assistant to its leader, she became the first woman to denounce the leader Naason Joaquin Garcia in the US for sexual abuse and encourage an investigation. Martin claims that since she was 16 she began to suffer abuse ''in all aspects'' from Joaquin Garcia. The church leader has been detained in Los Angeles, California, since June 2019 on multiple charges of child sexual abuse, child pornography and human trafficking. His trial was due to begin on 27 September 2021, but at a preliminary hearing in September his lawyers asked for more time to prepare his defense.
