S. Korea to chair IAEA for first time

South Korea will chair the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors for the first time since it joined the UN nuclear watchdog in 1957, according to the foreign ministry.

Shin Chae-hyun, South Korean ambassador to Austria and the Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna, will serve as the chair for a one-year term until September 2022. Korea is the 11th biggest donor among IAEA’s 173 members.
