Doosan Fuel Cell Co. has shipped four units of hydrogen fuel cells to China, marking the first export of the product in South Korea.

Doosan Fuel Cell said Monday that it held a ceremony to celebrate the country’s first overseas shipment of hydrogen fuel cells in Iksan, North Joella Province. The ceremony was attended by vice minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Park Ki-young, North Jeolla Province vice governor Shin Won-sik, Iksan City mayor Jeong Jun-yul and Doosan Fuel Cell CEO Yoo Soo-kyung.

The four units of 440-kilowatt (kW) hydrogen fuel cells the company has exported will be established at apartment buildings in Nanhai District in Foshan, Guangdong Province, to generate electricity and heat. The company has also agreed to provide additional services including installment, testing and maintenance, and offer help to China expand hydrogen fuel cell market.

“The export is a result of active support of the government to promote the hydrogen ecosystem as well as cooperation with many partners including Destin Power who developed power conversion system, Hi Air Korea and J&L Tech,” said Yoo. “We will continue to make efforts to provide more hydrogen fuel cells to a wider market including Shandong Province and Beijing.”

Shares of Doosan Fuel Cell jumped 6.6 percent to close at 52,300 won ($44.44) on Monday.
