Hong Ra-hee, widow of late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-hee collected the biggest dividend payment of 99.2 billion won ($8.4 million) for the Jan-June period this year, while the offspring including Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Jay Y. Lee made the other three of top 5 biggest dividend earner list, compiled from 2021 first-half dividend payout data of 140 listed companies.

The second highest paid was Cho Jung-ho, chairman of Meritz Financial Group, with 87 billion won. Compared to 2020 H1, 25 fewer companies out of the country’s 2,323 listed companies made dividend payments but the total payout amount rose 23.5% to 1.8 trillion won. Samsung Electronics was responsible for 53%, or 4.9 trillion won.
