Hana Bank donates vehicles to service for disabled

Hana Bank said Wednesday it donated two liquified petroleum gas-powered vehicles to Coactus, a Gangnam-based mobility service company that hires people with hearing impairments as taxi drivers.

Hana Bank said Wednesday it donated two liquified petroleum gas-powered vehicles to Coactus, a Gangnam-based mobility service company that hires people with hearing impairments as taxi drivers.

The vehicles will be used for the company’s Goyohan Mobility taxi service, which hires hearing-impaired people as drivers to offer job opportunities to the disabled. The taxies are equipped with a tablet PC for passengers and drivers to communicate. Goyohan means silent in Korean.

The donation was part of the bank's Happy C:AR project, which aims to improve its environmental, social and governance management, according to the company.

Under the project, if a customer receives a consultation about loans through Onthecar, Hana Bank’s car loan service, the company earmarks 2,000 won ($1.70) per customer and uses that money to buy environmentally friendly vehicles and make donations to the underprivileged.

In the first half of 2020, Hana Bank donated a small truck to a nursing home for disabled people in Cheorwon, Gangwon. It also donated a bigger vehicle that had been converted for use by the disabled in the second half of last year.

Hana Bank is offering Onthecar customers a "chance to participate in social activities that create jobs for hearing-impaired people and contribute to helping the underprivileged,” it said.

“Hana Bank will make constant efforts to help underprivileged people’s participation in society, as well as improve services for transportation-vulnerable people and supply more vehicles,” Park Sung-ho, CEO of Hana Bank, said during an event held in its headquarters in Jung District, central Seoul, on Wednesday.
