The rise of self-made and younger billionaire tycoons in Korea stands out

The number of self-made billionaires in Korea surged 12% to 25 this year from with 19 in 2018 on the back of pandemic wealth, showing the sharpest increase in comparison with the U.S. and Japan.
Of the total 21 newcomers to the billionaire-tycoon list, 14 were self-made. The ascent of younger self-made billionaires also was greatest in Korea, with the average age sliding from 61.5 to 56.3 years old.
