The distribution rights for “Escape from Mogadishu,” director Ryu Seung-wan’s 11th feature film, have been sold in 50 countries, according to local distributor Lotte Entertainment on Thursday.

The countries include Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Morocco, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan.

“Escape from Mogadishu,” which has sold 1.9 million tickets in theaters nationwide, has topped the daily box office chart for 14 consecutive days since its release on July 28. The film currently holds the highest number of ticket sales for a Korean film released this year.

Based on true events, “Escape from Mogadishu” delves into the story of stranded North and South embassy workers who join forces to escape Somalia during the civil war in 1991. It stars actors such as Kim Yoon-seok, Zo In-sung, Huh Joon-ho, Koo Kyo-hwan, Kim So-jin and Jeong Man-sik.
