A global film about K-pop is in the pipeline, CJ ENM said Tuesday.

Award-winning Hollywood producer Lynda Obst will produce the film in collaboration with South Korean filmmaker Yoon Je-kyoon, who is best known for “Haeundae” (2009) and “Ode to My Father” (2014).

“We have planned this project, tentatively titled ‘K-pop: Lost in America,’ to combine the heightened interest in Korean creators since Parasite swept Academy Awards in four categories with the popular global phenomenon of K-pop,” the company said. “We hope to help capable Korean creators make inroads overseas and elevate the value of K-content, including K-pop.”

Obst has worked on countless hit films, including “Interstellar” (2014), “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), “One Fine Day” (1996) and “Contact” (1997). She is also well-decorated, having received three Academy Awards, four Golden Globes and three Emmy Awards.

“I have a particular fondness for Korean culture, especially K-pop,” Obst said. “I will make sure this project is a success.”

Yoon, who is the first South Korean filmmaker to direct two films that achieved 10 million box office sales, said, “I plan to make it as a film that can satisfy global audiences by casting many K-pop stars and icons from Hollywood and the music world.”

Yoon will begin full-fledged production from August, beginning with auditions for lead actors to fill the boy band roles.
