"Squid Game," a Netflix original, will be available for streaming from Sept. 17.
In the series, several participants struggle for victory in a mysterious survival game, the winner taking home 45.6 billion won ($39.5 million).
Netflix released a short preview and a poster in announcing the show's availability.
In the video clip, game participants appear grimly determined, running toward something unseen by the viewers, the dramatic images eerily contrasting the upbeat soundtrack.
Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo were cast as leads, and Gong Yoo makes a special appearance in the series due to his acquaintance with director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who the actor previously worked with in "Silenced" (2011).
Hwang also directed "Miss Granny" (2014) and "The Fortress" (2017).
