BTS’s second English-lyric song “Butter” fell to fourth place on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart after nine weeks at the top spot, according to Billboard on Monday.
Released on May 21, “Butter” was at the top spot for the most weeks this year; seven consecutive weeks before falling to seventh place when the boy band’s third English-lyric track “Permission to Dance” entered the chart at No. 1, then another two weeks in a row.
A No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart being replaced by another song from the same artist has happened 13 times before BTS, but the boy band became the first artist in the chart’s history to have its previous No. 1 song return to the top spot.
This week, “Stay” by Australian rapper The Kid Laroi and Canadian singer Justin Bieber ranked at No. 1.
“Butter” beat American singer Olivia Rodrigo’s song “Drivers License,” which had topped the chart for eight consecutive weeks between January to March.
BTS has topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with five songs in the past 10 months and two weeks, the shortest period after Michael Jackson’s nine months and two weeks between 1987 and 1988.
