SUMMER BREEZE FESTIVAL

July 30 – Aug. 1: A three-day summer music festival is being organized at the Lotte Concert Hall in southern Seoul.

On the first day, singer and songwriter Lucid Fall and Stella Jang will hold a duo concert. The upcoming concert will be the two singer-songwriters’ first concert together, but the artists said they have so much in common, such as both having studied engineering in college, that the fans of both artists can look forward to their harmony.

On the second day, singer and songwriter Kwon Tae-eun, who used to be a music producer of JYP, will be holding a 10-year anniversary of his “Lunch Song Project.” Kwon began the project in 2010, which stages “heartwarming acoustic music for people during lunch time."

Other artists who have featured in Kwon’s project in the past 10 years include singer-songwriter Kevin Oh, cellist Hong Jin-ho, Hoppipolla, the winner of JTBC’s music survival program “Super Band” in 2019, and others.

On the final day, Park Hyun-soo, a member of a crossover vocal group Letteamor will be holding a solo concert, showcasing various genres of songs including classical music, jazz and pop. Letteamor won third place in JTBC’s third season of “Phantom Singer.”

Concerts on July 30 and 31 begin at 7:30 p.m. while the Aug. 1 concert begins at 3 p.m.

Tickets range from 40,000 won ($34,60) to 110,000 won.

INTIMATE STRANGERS Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, M Theater

Through Aug. 1:Hit Korean film “Intimate Strangers” (2018), directed by Lee Jae-kyoo, has been turned into a play that premiered at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in central in May. The film is based on 2016 Italian film “Perfect Strangers,” or “Perfetti Sconosciuti” in Italian, by Paolo Genovese.

The plot of the play strictly follows the original Italian film, where a married couple invites their close friends over for a housewarming dinner party. They start to play a game, initiated by a comment made by a relationship therapist named Eva. She says she believes that many couples would separate if they saw the messages on each other’s mobile phones. The party begins as they each place their phone on the dinner table and read out their messages with the rest of the group and openly share the calls on speakerphone.

Fifteen actors including Lee Si-eon, Park So-jin, Yang Kyung-won among many others have been cast in the play.

The play begins at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, and at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. There are no performances on Mondays.

Tickets range from 44,000 won to 77,000 won.

DRACULA: THE MUSICAL Blue Square, Shinhan Card Hall

Through Aug. 1:Based on the novel "Dracula" by Irish author Bram Stoker, the musical revolves around Count Dracula who has been living alone for 400 years after losing the love of his life. Then one day Count Dracula falls in love with Mina Murray, the fiancée of a young lawyer named Jonathan Harker.

The intertwined love story of the three — Count Dracula, Mina and Jonathan — unfolds against the backdrop of a Gothic castle.

Singer and musical actor Kim Jun-su alternate the role of Dracula along with other musical actors Shin Sung-rok and Jeon Dong-suk.

The musical starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesdays; and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekends and national holidays. There are no shows on Mondays.

Tickets range from 70,000 won to 150,000 won.

ON OFF CONCERT IV: SAM KIM, PEPPERTONES Lotte Concert Hall

Aug. 4:The Lotte Concert Hall is holding its fourth “On Off Concert,” a series that was launched to continue providing performances amid the coronavirus pandemic. The concert is provided live for those who can visit the venue, and also online for those who prefer to stay at home.

The upcoming concert features singer and songwriter Sam Kim and electronic-and-house duo Peppertones.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets range from 70,000 won to 110,000 won for the offline concert, while tickets for the online version are priced at 33,000 won.

SPECTRUM Olympic Park, Olympic Hall

Aug. 7 – 8:Crossover vocal quartet Rabidance is holding its first major concert titled "Spectrum" at the Olympic Park.

The group, which came second on the third season of JTBC’s “Phantom Singer” debuted last November. During the upcoming concert, Rabidance will perform some of the songs from its first EP, “Prism,” which dropped early this month.

The show begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets range from 99,000 won to 132,000 won.

BILLY ELLIOT D-Cube Arts Center

Aug. 31 – Feb. 2, 2022: “Billy Elliot” is back.

The story takes place in the 1980s, during a coal miners’ strike in Northern England. Billy happens to stumble across ballet during one of his boxing classes, and his life is changed forever after he discovers his love, and talent, for dance.

“Billy Elliot” is a heartwarming and humorous story about a young boy and his family trying to fulfill their dreams through music and choreography.

The kids who have been cast to alternate the role of Billy are, Kim Shi-hoon, Lee Woo-jin, Jeong Kang-hyuk and Joo Hyun-joon.

Ticket prices range from 60,000 to 150,000 won.

The show starts at 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekends.

DISNEY IN CONCERT: A DREAM IS A WISH Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Grand Theater

Sept. 2 – 3:Since its Korean premiere in 2014, “Disney in Concert” has been continuously gaining popularity. Children attend the concerts dressed in their favorite Disney characters' costumes, making it an annual ritual. For the upcoming concert, Disney classics, "The Little Mermaid," "Cinderella," "Beauty and the Beast," "Lion King" as well as "Frozen" and "Frozen 2" will be performed accompanied by the Ditto Orchestra.

A new number “Speechless” in "Aladdin" will be performed for the first time by foreign singers for “Disney in Concert,” heightening the anticipation of the regular “Disney in Concert” fans.

Admission is not allowed for children below 48 months.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on both days.

CLARA-JUMI KANG & KIM SUN-WOOK’S BEETHOVEN COMPLETE VIOLIN SONATAS Seoul Arts Center, Concert Hall

Sept. 12, 14 and 15: Violinist Clara-Jumi Kang, who recently challenged herself by recording Bach's "Complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin" (BWV 1001-1006), is preparing for another challenge. This time she'll perform Beethoven’s complete violin sonatas with pianist Kim Sun-wook.

The two artists recorded the album together last year to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. The album will also drop in September.

On Sept. 12, the two artists will perform No.s 1, 4, 8, and 7, followed by No.s 6, 3, and 9 (Kreutzer) on Sept. 14. On the final day of the concert on Sept. 15, they will perform No. 5 (Spring) and No.s 2 and 10.

The concert begins at 5 p.m. on Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 15.

Tickets range from 40,000 won to 110,000 won.

MARIE ANTOINETTE Charlotte Theater

Through Oct. 3: The Korean production of the hit musical Marie Antoinette is being staged at the Charlotte Theater in Jamsil, southern Seoul.

The musical tells the story of Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France, but some fictional characters have been included, like Margrid Arnaud, to add more drama to the life of the queen who was put to death by guillotine.

The nearly three-hour-long performance takes place in several settings, from the Palace of Versailles to Tuileries Garden to the Marais district, and the show will jump from place to place by using a revolving stage.

Musical actor Kim So-hyun again has been cast in the role of Marie Antoinette. Kim So-hyang will alternate as the queen.

Kim Yeon-ji and Jung Yu-ji have been cast to play the role of Margrid, who begs for money on the street but later becomes a revolutionary leader.

The male protagonist Fersen will be alternated by four actors — Min Woo-hyuk, Lee Seok-hoon, Lee Chang-sub, and Kim Do-young.

The show starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays and national holidays, and 3 p.m. on Sundays.

With toughened social distancing rules, 3 p.m. shows have been moved up to 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in July.

There are no shows on Mondays.

Tickets range from 70,000 won to 150,000 won.
