The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) issued heat warnings and advisories on Wednesday in most parts of the country following the monsoon season. The highest temperature for the day was 36 degrees Celsius (96.8 degrees Fahrenheit) in some parts of the country, including Seoul. Heat warnings are issued when the heat index exceeds 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) for more than a day, and advisories are issued when the heat index goes above 33 degrees Celsius for more than a day (91.4 degrees Fahrenheit). They are also issued when high-temperature conditions are expected to pose increased health risks.

The KMA said, “The greater Seoul area is seeing a surge in heat-related illnesses,” adding that those in “the agriculture, farming and fishing industries are encouraged to take caution” for heat illnesses.
