The Korean government is holding a four-month online film festival dubbed "K-Cinema Celebration in Canada" (KCC) to introduce Korean films to Canadians for free until Oct. 30.

The first ever KCC is being co-hosted by numerous Korean government bodies based in Canada including the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Montreal, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Centre Canada.

The Korean Film Council, Korea Tourism Organization, Korean Film Festival Canada, Toronto International Film Festival and Vancouver International Film Festival will also take part as partners.

The Vancouver Consulate kicked off the Korean Film Festival in Vancouver on July 1 to run until July 10, playing actor Youn Yuh-jung's iconic films to celebrate her monumental Oscar win this year, including "Minari" (2020), Actresses (2009), "Canola" (2016), and "The Bacchus Lady" (2016).

The Toronto Consulate will hold the "2021 Korean Film Festival Toronto" from July 9 to Aug. 6, featuring some popular films released in recent years, including "Minari," "Peninsula" (2020), "Beasts Clawing at Straws" (2018), "Innocence" (2019) and "Best Friend" (2020).

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Centre Canada will play films featuring Youn and films about urbanism from Aug. 18 to Oct. 13 and the Montreal Consulate will play films about women, also including films starring Youn, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 30.

"The ‘K-Cinema Celebration in Canada’ will introduce diverse independent films and media artists’ works that were not easily accessible to Canadian audiences," the KCC said.
