Korea's June 1-20 exports up 30% on yr, easing from over 40% previous months

Korea’s exports kept up record winning streak, gaining near 30 percent on year in the first 20 days of June.

The country’s exports amounted $32.4 billion for June 1-20, up 29.5 percent from a year earlier, according to the Korea Customs Service on Monday. Daily average exports rose 33.7 percent based on 15.5 working days, 0.5 less than a year ago. The steam, however, eased from over 40 percent gains in April and May.

Outbound shipment of semiconductors jumped 28.5 percent on year, automobiles 62.2 percent, petroleum products 58.6 percent, and wireless communication devices 15.8 percent.

Vessel deliveries, however, fell 27.7 percent. Computer peripherals exports also decreased 4.2 percent.

By destination, Korea’s exports to United States expanded 41.3 percent and to European Union 48.8 percent. Exports to Vietnam rose 34.8 percent, Japan 33.0 percent, Middle East 17.9 percent, and China 7.9 percent.

Korea’s imports during the first 20 days in June totaled $32.1 billion, up 29.1 percent on year.

Crude oil imports surged 124.6 percent, petroleum products 99.1 percent, semiconductors 13.1 percent and automobiles 87.8 percent.

Shipments from China grew 19.0 percent, U.S 25.6 percent, EU 13.5 percent, Middle East 57.1 percent, Japan 17.2 percent and Australia 44.8 percent.
