Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) has won a $330 million deal to construct a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) for a Monaco-based offshore wind farm construction and service company Eneti, the Korean company announced on Wednesday.

Under the deal, the South Korean shipbuilder will build the vessel at its Okpo shipyard and deliver it by the third quarter of 2024. The deal has an option to build an additional WTIV.

The vessel, 148 meters long and 56 meters wide, can sail and be loaded with five offshore wind turbines whose generation capacities reach 14-15 megawatts. It can install generators up to 65 meters under the sea.

The location for installation is positioned with seven thrusters and GPS systems. An offshore wind generator will be installed through a 2,600-ton crane on the vessel, the company explained.

The vessel will be built based on the ¡®NG-16000X¡¯ design of GustoMSC, a Dutch engineering firm, for WTIVs.

The offshore wind power market is growing with increasing interest and investment in renewable energy. Offshore wind power generation capacity is also increasing to more than 10MW. Demand for large WTIVs is expected to continue to rise amid market growth and generator upgrading.

DSME has won orders for 25 ships worth $2.54 billion, including 11 very large crude oil carriers, nine liquefied petroleum gas carriers, four container vessels and one WTIV, so far this year, achieving one third of its annual order target of $7.7 billion.

DSME finished Thursday down 3.47 percent at 37,600 won in Seoul.
