South Korea’s top food delivery app Baedal Minjok (Baemin) will speed up delivery service upon fast catching up by latecomer Coupang Eats.

Woowa Brothers Corp., operator of Baemin, announced Monday that it is adding ‘Baemin One’ starting in June to ensure faster delivery by restricting its riders from delivering more than one order at a time. It will offer discounted commissions for the new service.

The company has launched similar ‘Flash Delivery’ earlier this year where orders are placed automatically to riders to enforce one customer’s food order per rider.

The top delivery platform has been watching its shoulders due to fast ascension by food delivery latecomer under e-commerce giant Coupang.

Coupang Eats has quickly moved up in the market with discriminated one-delivery-per rider service from the start.

According to mobile application analysis platform Mobile Index, Coupang Eats accounted for 17.1 percent of the food delivery market as of January versus 5.66 percent in August last year. Baemin, meanwhile, has lost 10 percent of its share over the same period to command 80 percent.

In some areas in affluent neighborhoods in Gangnam districts of southern Seoul, Coupang Eats commands more than half of the market, surpassing 30 percent share of Baemin.
