South Korean veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung was named the best supporting actress for her role in “Minari,” a Korean-American immigrant story directed by Lee Isaac Chung, at British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards on Sunday. As the first-ever Korean to win the award, Youn thanked the audience in her online acceptance speech, referring to them as “snobbish people,” for approving her as a “good actor.” The latest award has taken Youn a step closer to adding Oscars at the upcoming Academy Awards later this month.
