Korean Association for Property Law elects new chairman

Professor Tsche Kwang-jun of Kyung Hee University Law School has been elected as the 10th chairman of the Korean Association for Property Law for a one-year term starting March 1, the university announced Tuesday.
Professor Tsche is the head of the university’s legal research institute and institute for international affairs. He is also a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission which examines atrocities committed by the government during Korea’s modern history.
Upon election, Professor Tsche said, “With the association, I will pursue research on problems arising in property laws related to current social issues, such as punitive damages, legal reparations and statutes of limitations regarding various countries’ responses to Covid-19."
After studying international human rights law at New York University and Temple University, Professor Tsche received his doctorate in international contract law from the University of Cologne. He is widely recognized as an international legal scholar, having served as South Korea's national president within the World Jurist Association and chair of the Distinguished Article Award Committee of the Asian Law and Society Association.
He is also widely known as the son of late Professor Tsche Jong-gil of Seoul National University, who died under torture by the Korean Central Intelligence Agency during the military dictatorship of President Park Chung Hee.
Founded in 1982, the Korean Association for Property Law is Korea’s oldest academic organization dedicated to the research of civil, commercial, intellectual property, civil litigation and other fields of property law.
